If you’ve got this far you will probably already know a lot about Multiple Sclerosis and the fact that it is an individual disease with symptoms that vary enormously from person to person, and even day to day. No, there is no cure but early therapy can help in both the short and long term.
Wessex MS Therapy offers you Free ‘Start Up’ Assessment
Although the first month of intensive consultation is vitally important people are often reluctant to take the first step because they are fearful of their financial future. We want you to take that step. The decision whether to continue after that is then your choice underlining our commitment to allowing everyone to make their own choices.
Counselling: Coming to terms with the fact that you have an incurable disease is hard, not only on the individual but on the family as well. A session of counselling can set the pattern towards a determination to keep control of their lives. We have a private room available to ensure confidentiality. Counselling is also available to other members of the family and carers.
Nutritional Advice: A period of consultation to decide the best diet for the individual, careful monitoring in the first month
Physiotherapy: Finding out what the individual can do for themselves, devising a suitable programme of exercises to help maintain and improve mobility.
Reflexology: Reflexology can be used to help restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium. This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance.
Oxygen Therapy: Oxygen Therapy is proven to help stabilise certain aspects of MS such as bladder function, double vision, balance problems and fatigue. Before settling into the pattern that is right for them, each person has to take a course of 15 sessions over a period of not more than three weeks to acclimatise the body to the change and to analyse the number of sessions that will be needed in the future.
During the first month of therapy, there is also the opportunity to meet Centre members in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the opportunity to talk with those who have MS and can help with practical answers to every day problems.
Everyone must have the written consent of their own Doctor before beginning these sessions.
Most importantly - You’re not Alone - More than 1 in 700 people in Britain suffer from Multiple Sclerosis
So, if you decide to take advantage of the Assessment Sessions what else can you expect?
The first thing to remember is:
We are here to help
Those affected with MS have to come to terms with their situation, and find ways to cope with lifestyles that may have radically changed. We understand the worry, confusion, uncertainty and anger that can come when MS is first diagnosed. Most of the volunteers at the Centre have MS; they understand and can help with practical and down to earth advice.
MS affects the whole family and Wessex MS supports the individual and their carers.
Social Contact
One of the most important features of Bradbury House is the reception area with its comfortable chairs, help-yourself tea and coffee bar, giving the opportunity to meet, talk, share jokes with other people in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
